In the Beginning

Dear potential Liars,

I'd like to invite you to a new live literary event featuring professional and aspiring thespians reading original short stories by Hong Kong based writers. The event will take place every month (hopefully) in a Hong Kong location and will bring together the most talented and visionary creatives in the city. The first event will take place in early 2013.
In short:

Writers write, actors read, audience listens, everybody wins.

We're looking for writers and actors to join the League.

Actors -
Auditions will begin shortly. To sign up, please email with a short biography and contact details (numbers help). Check here for what we're looking for.

Writers -
Start submitting! The theme for the first Liars' League is 'He & She' which can be interpreted in any creative way you like. Deadline is January 11. Submissions should be between 800 - 1200 words and in the genre of prose short story. No poetry or scripts please. Novel extracts will also be accepted if they work as stand-alone pieces. Please do not write your name on the submitted documents; we like to judge anonymously. Check here for the nitty -gritty details.

For tips, read veteran London Liar Niall Boyce's piece on what works.

Everybody else -
We're looking for a cameraman (to record the event), web-savvy techies and groupies.
We'll keep you updated over the coming weeks about exciting new developments and confirmed dates.

Over and out,

Liars' League

  1. How brilliant to find you guys setting up a Hong Kong branch of this lovely London tradition. I've loved this sort of thing ever since I did a book tour of Germany and my publisher attached actors to every stop. Anything I can do to help just say the word. All the best, Nury
ps I am chairman of the Asia Pacific Writers Assoc for my sins...

    1. Dear Nury,

Do you have an email address that I can contact you on? We'd love to have you on board!

  2. Dear LL,
Just to let you know that I'm promoting your site in the HKWC newsletter this month! Looking forward to seeing this in action!
    Laura (HKWC Secretary)
